TouchScreen:
In this world Mobiles are now become an integral part of everyone life .You can communicate, send messages, watch t.v, use internet, play games and do many more things. But before the devlopment of touchscreen you have to deal with the bulky keys and with touchscreen you only need a gentle touchon screen to get the desired opearation. Touchscreen is a electronic display in which we can control the operation of concerned device through by any pointed object(Stylus),finger. This technology has made device using experience more interactive. This article will give you chance to get insight the technology used for touch screen.
Touchscreen comes into picture when Dr.Sam Hurst devloped the first touch sensor in 1971 at the university of Kentucky.the first toucch screen is used in PLATO project for computer learning assistant.Touchscreen has three components are required for proper operation:
1. Touch Sensor.
2. Controller.
3. Software driver
Their are three types of touchscreen technologies available in the market which are:
1. Resistive touch.
2. Capacitive touch.
3. Surface acoustic wave.
Resistive Touch:
The resistive touchscreen consists of a normal glass panel that is covered with a conductive and a resistive metallic layer. A scratch-resistant layer is placed on top of the whole setup. An electrical current always runs through the two layers while the monitor is in use. When a user touches the screen, the two layers make contact in that exact spot. The change in the electrical field is noted and the coordinates of the point of contact are calculated by the computer. Then the operating system performs the desired operations requested by user.
Features of Resistive Technology:This technology is used for manufacturing monitors,Mobile screen,ATM,Grocessary stores.Elo, Acer, HP, Planar, 3M, Viewsonic are the companies which are providing monitors based on this technology. The top 10 mobiles which are using this technology are as follows:
1. Samsung Jet S8000
2. Nokia N97
3. HTC Tattoo
4. Samsung OmniaPro B7610
5. Sony Ericsson Satio
6. Nokia 5250
7. HTC Touch Pro2
8. LG Cookie KP500
9. Samsung Tocco Lite
10. LG KS660
Capacitive touch:
In the capacitive touch screen a layer that stores electrical charge is placed on the glass panel of the monitor. When a user touches the screen with his finger, some of the charge is transferred to the user, so the charge on the capacitive layer decreases. This decrease in charge is measured in circuits located at each corner of the monitor. The computer calculates the cordinates of the location to perform the operation desired by the user.
Features of Capcitive TouchScreen:
The top 10 mobiles which are using this technology are as follows:
1. Apple iPhone 5
2. Motorola Atrix
3. Google Nexus S
4. LG Optimus 2X
5. HTC Desire S
6. Nokia N8
7. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10
8. Samsung Omnia 7
9. Samsung Galaxy S
10. Blackberry Storm 2
